Falcons fall in five

NDC edged on the road by Urbana

URBANA, Ohio -- The Notre Dame Falcons were one set away from scoring their first conference victory of the season, but fell in five sets to Urbana on Tuesday night.

The Falcons (2-17, 0-5 MEC) have lost five in a row, and are still in search of their first road victory of the season, while Urbana (5-10, 2-3) stopped a brief two game slide with the victory.

While the Blue Knights took the opening set, 25-16, Notre Dame came roaring back to take the next two sets to steal the momentum.  The Falcons won, 25-22 and 25-17 to take a 2-1 advantage, but Urbana kept the match alive with a 25-18 victory in the fourth set, and clinched the victory with a 15-11 win in the final set.

Suzanne Morris paced the Falcons offensively with 11 kills on the night, while Lindsay Shiriilla and Stephanie Frick each added nine.  A total of five Falcons registered double digit digs, including Tawny Flareau, who led the way with 30 digs, and also added 30 assists. 

The other Falcons who turned in double digit digs were Morgan Toman with 21, Brittany Perrott and Ryan Moriarty each added 19, and Kelsey Swords contributed with 14. Katie Sullivan added three solo blocks and two block assists. 

Notre Dame is in action again on Friday, Oct. 11, when they hit the road for another conference tilt as they take on West Virginia State.  The contest is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start.
