SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio -- The Notre Dame Falcons fell in four sets against the Shepherd Rams at Murphy Gymnasium on Saturday night.
The Falcons (2-16, 0-4 MEC) have now lost four in a row, while the Rams (7-6, 3-0) have now won three in a row, and are over the .500 hump for the first time this season.
The opening set was controlled by the Falcons early on. NDC mounted a 14-7 lead at the beginning of the first set, and held the lead for most of it. However, the Rams came roaring back, and eventually tied the set, 20-20. The Falcons were ahead, 23-22, when the Rams ran off three straight points to take the opening set, 25-23.
Another tightly contested set was played in the second, where extra points were needed for the Falcons to tie the match, 1-1. Neither side was able to take a lead larger than two, until the rams picked up steam, and eventually led, 21-17. Notre Dame had just one point to work with, trailing 24-21, but rallied back and came away with a 28-26 victory.
The Rams rallied early on in the third set, and led by as many as four on several occasions. The Falcons eventually caught up, tying the contest at 10-10. The set remained close, as the two teams were tied at 16-16, until Shepherd pulled away late, scoring seven out of the next 10 points, to take a 25-21 victory.Â
In the final set, the Rams took control early on. While the contest was close in the early goings, and the Falcons trailed just one (14-13), the Rams caught fire, and went on a 6-1 run, taking a 20-14 advantage, and never looked back as they secured the match with a 25-19 victory.
Suzanne Morris led the way for NDC offensively with nine kills on the night, and
Morgan Toman finished with seven.Â
Shelby Regiec had 37 assists on the night to go along with 13 digs.Â
Brittany Perrott led the charge for NDC defensively with 18 digs and had a pair of service aces.Â
The Falcons will return to action on Tuesday, Oct. 8, when they hit the road for another conference tilt against Urbana. The contest is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start.
