Falcons fall in bird bash

Notre Dame drops road tilt to Wheeling Jesuit

WHEELING, W.Va. -- The Notre Dame Falcons fell on Friday night in three sets on the road to the Cardinals of Wheeling Jesuit.

The Falcons (3-20, 1-8 MEC) are still looking for their first road victory in conference action, while the Cardinals (21-3, 8-0 MEC) have now won 20 consecutive matches, and have not lost since Sept. 7.  They are the only unbeaten team in conference play.

Notre Dame was able to hang with the Cardinals in the opening set, as the lead changed hands several times, as NDC and the Cardinals were tied on four separate occasions, but in the end, WJU came away with a 25-19 victory in the opening set.

The second and third sets were a little different, as the Cardinals took control right away and never let up.  In the second set, they scored the first four points to establish control in a 25-13 victory.  The Cardinals closed out the match in the third set with a remarkable start, on a 9-0 run as they ran away with a 25-11 win.

Leading the way for the Falcons was Angela Bush, who came away with a team best, six kills on the night and she hit .211 in the process. Shelby Regiec paced the Falcons in both assists with 20, and digs with 11.  Morgan Toman added a pair of service aces and six digs, while Taylor Thomas led NDC with a pair of blocks.

The Falcons are in action again on Saturday, Oct. 26, when the take on West Liberty.  The contest is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start.
