The Falcons (12-1-0) immediately bounced back from their first loss of the season and produced a strong performance to defeat a difficult Shepherd side.
In wet conditions on Mueller field the falcons and Rams started frenetically with both teams working to bring the ball down and play. The Falcons had the better of the first half outshooting the Rams 7-2 and also earning 6 corner kicks. However, the Falcons were unable to capitalize on their opportunites and the game was tied 0-0 at the half.
The turning point of the game came in the 54th minute when
Alex Defilippo was able to grab hold of a loose ball and then turn inside a Shepherd defender before firing a shot in the bottom left hand corner from 18 yards out. The goal was Defillippo's sixth of the season.
The Falcon defense once again held strong, limiting the Rams to six total shots to secure their ninth shut out of the season.
The Falcons, who are currently ranked sixth in the NCAA Division II Atlantic Region by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA), will play again at home on Wednesday Oct. 23 at 4:00 p.m.
