ALLENDALE, Mich. – The Notre Dame Falcons opened up the first day of action at the Grand Rapids Laker Classic, with a pair of losses, falling 3-1 to Seton Hill (Pa.) and 3-0 to Stonehill (Mass). (

The Falcons (0-6) were able to rip one set away from the Griffins (4-1) in the first match, after dropping the opening two sets, 25-21, and 25-9. The Falcons 25-18 decision in the third set, but fell just short, in a 25-22 decision in the final set of their opening match.
Things didn't turn out to well for NDC in their second contest, as Stonehill took 25-17, and 25-19 decisions before winning the final set convincingly, 25-9. NDC had a tough second match, hitting .120, .074, and -.032.
Notre Dame freshman
Angela Bush ended up with 17 kills on the day, including 13 in the opening set, as she hit .310 against Seton Hill.
Brianne Schmansky led the Falcons with 18 kills on the afternoon, turning in 13 against the Griffins as well.
Sophomore
Chandler Mass had 36 assists in the opening contest, and paced the Falcons with 54 on the day. Mass also had a team high, 31 digs on the day as well, delivering 22 against Seton Hill in the opener. Falcon freshman
Suzanne Morris had a nice day defensively, with three blocks and a trio of block assists.
The Falcons are back in action again on Saturday, Sept. 8, when they wrap up at the Grand Valley State Laker Classic. The Falcons have two contests scheduled on Saturday. They'll face Lake Superior State (Mich.) at 10 a.m. and the University of D.C. at 2 p.m.
