Box Score
CANTON, Ohio -- Notre Dame snapped a two-game, scoreless losing streak with a convincing 3-0 victory over Malone on Sunday.
Claire Kelley gave NDC an early lead with her first goal of the season in the fourth minute, and
Lauren Acker added two second-half goals as the Falcons downed the host Pioneers (1-5-1, 0-3-1 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference). Notre Dame (3-5, 2-2) had been held scoreless over its previous 180 minutes of play, and the team's three goals mark a new single-game high in the 2012 season.
At the 3:47-mark in the first half, Kelley banged home a put-back when she received a rebound off a
Lauren Kobylik shot which had hit off a goal post. That gave NDC a 1-0 lead, and the score would remain right there until the 61st minute of play.
At 60:16, Acker scored her first goal of the match -- and her team-leading fourth of the season -- when she found nylon off a Notre Dame corner. Acker cleaned up the score sheet with her fifth of the season -- a long one-hopper in front of MU goalkeeper Angie Nutial -- in the 89th minute.
For the match, the Pioneers outshot the Falcons, 13-12, but NDC landed five shots on goal to MU's three. Christy Kolschetzy pitched the shutout with her play in goal.
For Notre Dame, scoring three goals in the game marked just the second time in the team's last 14 matches that it has netted more than two goals in a game. The Falcons are 7-6-1 in that stretch.
The Blue & White will continue their season with a GLIAC match against Lake Erie on Sept. 29 (Korb Field, 2 p.m.).
