LYNDHURST, Ohio – Notre Dame was defeated by the visiting Michigan Tech Huskies, 2-0, in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Conference action on Sunday afternoon.
The loss came in the back half of a two-game GLIAC weekend for the Falcons. NDC defeated Northern Michigan in the team's GLIAC debut on Friday. In being shut out on Sunday, Notre Dame (2-4, 1-1 GLIAC) has now failed to score a goal in four of its first six contests this season.
It didn't take long for the Panthers (4-2, 2-0) to score in Sunday's match-up at Korb Field. MTU's aggressive play early on led to a quick score off of a corner kick in the 11th minute. That goal (Janelle Ridl from Katie Boardman) was followed into the NDC net by a Boardman shot in the 31st minute. That goal -- a low, 21-yarder to the far post -- put the Panthers up, 2-0.
Michigan Tech applied pressure throughout the balance of the match, but Christy Kolschesky made 11 saves over the 90-minute contest to hold the Panthers in check the rest of the way.
Notre Dame, however, was also held in check. The Falcons were outshot, 32-7, in the game, and the MTU defense allowed just two shots on goal.
The loss marked Notre Dame's first at home since Oct. 23, 2010. The Falcons had won seven straight at Korb Field since then.
NDC's next match is slated for Friday, when the team travels to North Canton, Ohio, to take on the Walsh Cavaliers (5 p.m.). That contest will mark the front half of a a two-game weekend in the Canton area: the Falcons will face Malone on the road on Sunday.
