Falcons fall to Storm in non conference action

Box Score PAINESVILLE, Ohio  -- The Notre Dame Falcons dropped their first overtime game of the season, as they dropped a 1-0 decision to Lake Erie on Monday evening in double overtime. (Box)

Though the loss came against a GLIAC opponent, the set back for NDC (1-3-0) will not count in the conference standings, and marked their third shutout loss of the season.  The victory for Lake Erie (1-3-0) gave the Storm their first win of the season.

The Storm fired off just one more shot than the Falcons on the night, but seven of their nine shots were on goal, while just half of NDC's eight shots were on goal.

Notre Dame had few chances to score in the opening half.  The Falcons took just a pair of shots, and their only shot on goal came from Sabrina Mottershead, and it was turned away by Lake Erie goalie Megan Baldacci.

While there was no scoring in the first half, Lake Erie's offense had its fair share of opportunities.  The Storm got five four shots off in the opening stanza, and all four shots were on goal.  NDC goalie Kristy Kolschetzky turned away all four shots.  Kolschetzky made a pair of those saves in a 30-second span.

Kolschetzky made another save in the 71st minute, on Paige Nemec's header to keep the game scoreless.  The Falcons had several chances to end the scoreless tie, sending off three shots with just under five minutes left in regulation. Baldacci turned away shots from Lauren Kobylik and Alex DeFilippo, and Lauren Acker had a shot blocked.

Lake Erie went on the attack in the 94th minute, but were again turned away by Kolschetzky's sixth save of the night, as she denied Chrissy Poulos's shot.

The Storm finally brought and end to the contest, just 36-seconds into overtime, when Poulos found the back of the net for her first goal of the season.

Four players for the Falcons, Acker, Kobylik, DeFilippo and Mottershead fired two shots apiece.

The Falcons will return to action on Friday, Sept. 14, when they square off against Northern Michigan, in another home opener.  The contest is scheduled to kick at 5 p.m.
