ERIE, Pa. – The Notre Dame Falcons dropped their second consecutive road contest of the season, as they suffered a 1-0 setback at Mercyhurst (Pa.) on Saturday afternoon.
The Falcons (0-2-0) have now lost three consecutive road matches, dating back to the 2011 season, where they posted a strong, 6-3-1 record away from home.
The 1-0 loss also leave the Falcons looking for their first goal two games into the season, as they were blanked on opening night, in a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Edinboro back on Thursday night.
Despite the loss, the Falcons received another terrific performance from junior goalie
Kristy Kolschetzky, who faced 24 shots on the afternoon. The shot disparity was a major factor in the game, as the Falcons got 10 shots off, to the Lakers' (2-0-0) 24.
The lone goal in the contest was scored at the 60:45-mark, as Mercyhurst's Olivia Resch found the back of the net. Nikki Charboneau was credited with the assist.
Notre Dame had two chances to answer in the final 11-minutes. At the 79:10-mark,
Lauren Kobylik's shot was high, and
Julia Porostosky's shot at the 80:04-mark was saved by Mercyhurst goalie Ellie McDougall.
NDC had four shots on goal on the day, two coming from freshman Alex DeFilippo.
"We got out to a nice start and played well in the first half," said Head Coach
Mike Shiels. "But when they got into the game they had more opportunties, and better opportunities in the first half."
The Falcons will return to action on Friday, Sept. 7, when they square off against West Virginia Tech, in another road tilt. The contest is scheduled to kick at 3:30 PM.
