Hyde cruises to shutout win over Walsh

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2
AVON, Ohio -- Senior right-hander Andrew Hyde tossed a complete-game shutout in the nightcap of a twin bill, answering a two-hitter by Walsh's Travis Danner in the opener, as the Falcons and Cavaliers split on Sunday.

Danner allowed just a pair of singles in outdueling NDC Matt Kastelic, who went the route allowing just one run on four hits in game one.  The Walsh left-hander retired the final 16 batters he faced in the near-perfect game.  Danner did not walk a batter, and he struck out 8.  Kastelic nearly matched him in the first of two chilly games at All Pro Freight Stadium.  The games marked Senior Day for the NDC Baseball program.

In game two is was Hyde who turned in a masterful performance, tossing his fourth complete game of the season and his first career shutout.  The Toronto, Ontario, native was one of five Falcon senior recognized in a ceremony between games, and he came out and dominated the Cavaliers, allowing just two singles and two walks in seven innings.  With his Sunday afternoon performance, Hyde lowered his 2012 ERA to 1.84.

Notre Dame (14-25-1) plated five runs in the fourth inning of game two en route to the victory.  Center fielder Bryan Pyper had a big game for NDC, doubling twice and driving in a pair of runs.

The Falcons and Cavaliers (24-22) had been scheduled to play a four-game series over the weekend, but Saturday's games in North Canton, Ohio, were postponed due to inclement weather.  Those games have been rescheduled for May 1.
