Brianne Schmansky had 15 kills while hitting. 500, as the Falcons (6-21) defeated the Storm, 25-21, 26-24, 25-15, at URG's Lyne Center. The win goes down as a major upset, as URG had 17 of its previous 20 matches and had not lost at home until its meeting with NDC (the Storm had been 8-0 on their home hardwood).
The Blue & White hit a robust. 350 for the match, while the home Storm managed a mere .200 mark.
Schmansky's frontcourt play was complemented by the solid all-around effort by
Tawnia Almaraz, who had a pair of service aces and racked up a team-high 16 digs.
Angela Bush had nine kills in the match and was one of four NDC players to rack up multiple blocks (she had five).
“What a great night for our girls,” said Head Coach
Mark Ridley. “You have to play a near-perfect brand of volleyball against a team like Rio. And our girls were up for that challenge.”
Notre Dame will continue what is a five-match road swing to close out the season on Thursday with a 7 p.m. tilt at Seton Hill (Pa.).
