Tiffin tops NDC in 109th minute

Box Score
LYNDHURST, Ohio --  An apparent missed call on a Notre Dame breakaway was followed by a Tiffin goal as NDC fell, 1-0, in a double-overtime Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match on Friday night.

Tiffin's Giulianne Domingues slipped a 14-yard shot into the lower left corner, lifting the Dragons to victory in the 109th minute of the contest played at Korb Field. The final goal did not come without controversy -- the play came moments after TU keeper Hayley Coppola came out of the box on a breakaway; she apparently touched the ball with her hands, but the play drew no call.

With the loss, the Falcons (3-7, 2-4 GLIAC) have now dropped four of their last five games.  That stretch includes three straight losses at home, where NDC went 6-0 a year ago.  Notre Dame is now 0-2 this season in overtime games.

All seven of NDC's losses this season have been in shutout games; five have been by a one-goal margin.

The Falcons and Dragons were scoreless through an evenly-played opening half.  The two sides traded seven shots, with each team landing two on goal.

Freshman midfielder Claire Kelley came within a few inches of putting Notre Dame on the scoreboard when she had a header bounce off the far post in the 53rd minute.  That near-miss was part of run of pressure applied by the Falcon offense.  Throughout much of the second half, NDC retained possession in the Tiffin end.  The Blue & White narrowly missed an opportunity off a corner in the 72nd minute.

The rest of regulation time was played out with few assaults on either net.  That sent the Dragons and Falcons into overtime.

In the 94th minute, Tiffin pressed the NDC defense with three straight corners.  But goalkeeper Kristy Kolschetzky and the Falcon defensive corps prevailed, keeping the Dragons off the board.

Giulianne Domingues came away with the lone goal of the match at 108:39.  The goal marked her third of the season.

NDC goalkeeper Kristy Kolschetzky had five saves in the loss.  Hayley Coppola notched four saves for TU.  For the 100-plus minutes of action, Notre Dame outshot Tiffin, 12-11.  Both teams put five shots on goal.

Coming into Friday's game, Tiffin had lost five of its last six matches.  The Dragons, however, have been a solid road team in 2012 -- they are now 4-3 in away contests.

With Friday's result, Notre Dame is now 2-8 all-time against Tiffin.

For the Blue & White, the contest marked the second of three straight games at home.  Notre Dame will play the last of those three matches on Sunday, when the Falcons host the Oilers of Findlay University in a 2 p.m. contest at Korb Field.
