Falcons fall in road match to Storm

PAINESVILLE, Ohio -- The Notre Dame Falcons fell on the road for the third time this season, dropping a 3-0 decision to the Lake Erie Storm on Tuesday night.  (Box)

The contest marked Notre Dame's (4-13) first contest on the road, since dropping a 3-0 decision to Tiffin back on Sept. 11. The victory for Lake Erie (3-10) gives them a sweep over the Falcons this season.

The Falcons went on an incredible, 7-0 run to start the opening set.  NDC appeared to be well on it's way to taking that opening set, with a 20-13 lead, until the Storm went on a 12-0 run to finish the opening set, in a 25-20 victory.

That momentum carried over into the second set.  The two teams exchanged blows early on, and with the set tied at 1-1, Lake Erie went on to score 10 out of the match's next 12 points to take a commanding, 11-3 advantage.  The Storm never looked back, and took the second set, 25-9.

Notre Dame got out to a great start once again in the third set, and led by as many as four (5-1).  After taking that 5-1 lead, the Falcons surrendered six straight points.  NDC remained close, down only 9-7, before Lake Erie scored five straight points to take a commanding lead, and took the final set, 25-17.

Kristen Hill led the way for NDC offensively with six kills on the night, while senior Brianne Schmansky contributed with five.  Magenta Tygret led the way with eight digs on the evening and had a pair of service aces.  Chandler Mass led NDC with 14 assists.

The Falcons are back at it again on Wednesday, Oct. 3, when they head to Berea, Ohio, to square off against Baldwin-Wallace.  The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
