Falcons fall to Fighting Scots in five

EDINBORO, Pa. -- For the second time in their last three matches, the Notre Dame Falcons fell in five sets, as they were bested by the Fighting Scots in a road match on Tuesday night. (Box)

The loss extends Notre Dame's (4-18) losing skid to seven, their longest of the season. The victory for Edinboro (8-16) snapped a three game slide and was their sixth in a row over NDC.

Edinboro opened the match with a 26-24 victory, before the Falcons evened the score in the second set, with a 25-13 victory.  With the match tied at 1-1, the Fighting Scots scored another two-point victory, in a 25-23 tally in the third set, before NDC returned the favor, by winning the fourth set by the exact same score.

The Fighting Scots then took the match, with a 15-13 victory in the final set. The two point loss in the fifth set marked the second time the Falcons have fallen by two points in the final set in their last three matches.

Notre Dame hit .164 on the evening, and they were led by senior Brianne Schmansky, who had 14 kills.  Both Magenta Tygret and Suzanne Morris added eight kills for the Falcons.

Chandler Mass contributed with 42 assists to go along with seven digs.  Tygret paced NDC with 22 digs in the contest, while Tawnia Almaraz added 18, and Kelsey Swords delivered 16 digs on the night to go along with a trio of service aces.

The Falcons are in action again on Friday, Oct. 19, when they hit the road again for a matchup with the Blue Knights of Urbana. The match is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
