Wrong side of the streak

Losing skid continues with 1-0 setback at Northwood

Box Score
MIDLAND, Mich. -- Notre Dame couldn't battle its way out of a losing streak at Northwood (Mich.) on Friday, and that losing streak has now reached four games.

The host Timberwolves scored a first-half goal and then kept a lid on their goal for the balance of play in the 1-0 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tilt at Dean Field on the campus of Northwood University.

Goalkeeper Kristy Kolschetzky had six saves for the Falcons, who were playing Northwood for the first time in program history. With the loss, Notre Dame (3-9, 2-6 GLIAC) has now dropped four games in a row and six of its last seven.  Notre Dame headed into Friday's game ranked 221st (of 234 teams) in NCAA-II scoring, with a goals-per-game average of 0.64.  With Friday's 1-0 setback in Midland, Mich., NDC has now been shut out in all nine of its losses.

With the victory, Northwood (4-6-1, 4-3-1) has won three of its last four.

Friday's game was even through the first 37 minutes.  In the 38th minute, the Timberwolves' Megan Murdoch scored when an Amanda Watson through-ball down the middle of the field set her up to beat Kristy Kolschetzky on a 10-yarder into the right side of the goal. That would be the only netfinder of the first frame, a period that saw Northwood outshoot Notre Dame, 8-4.

In the second half, the Falcons didn't manage a shot until 13 minutes in when a Sabrina Mottershead effort was turned away by a Northwood defender.  The Timberwolves just missed on doubling their lead at 77:54 when an Alyssa Tomassi shot pinged off the post.  Regardless of the margin, Northwood defended it throughout to preserve the 1-0 win.

The Timberwolves outshot the Falcons, 6-2, in the second half and 14-6 for the game. A stout NU defense did not allow a Notre Dame shot over the final 31 minute of the match.

The game marked the front end of a two-game Michigan road trip for the Falcons.  NDC is slated to play Saginaw Valley State (Mich.) on Sunday at noon.
