Falcons stung in home opener

Notre Dame miscues lead to B-W win

SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio -- Notre Dame fell to Baldwin-Wallace, 3-1, in the Falcons' home opener on Wednesday. (Box)

NDC battled the Yellow Jackets (5-0) in the first set, winning by a 29-27 score. After that it was all downhill as B-W whipped the Falcons, 75-33, over the next three games.

Notre Dame (1-4) fell behind quickly in each of the final three sets, never rallying and never unable to play through its own miscues and mistakes.

"We really just never got it going all night," said Head Coach Mark Ridley. "It was like a team slump, but we need to learn to play our way out of situations like that."

The Falcons lost, 29-27, 11-25, 13-25, 9-25. Their nine points in the fourt set marks a new game-low for the team this year and with the match loss, the Falcons have now lost four in a row.

The Yellow Jackets out-hit NDC, .341 to .129 on a night when the Falcons managed just 33 kills. Senior Kari Kincannon had 10 of those kills to pace the frontcourt. Lauren Turner added seven kills and 20 digs. Taylor Thomas added six kills and three blocks.

Amanda Sawicki led the B-W side. She notched 20 kills and hit .486 on the evening.

"I don't take anything away from B-W," said Ridley.  "That's a good team.  But we're a better team than we showed tonight.  We need to bounce back and prove it."

Notre Dame will look to break out of its slump on Friday when the Falcons travel to Pittsburgh to play in a tournament hosted by Point Park. On Friday NDC will play West Liberty (W. Va.) and Ohio Valley (W. Va.).
