SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio -- The Notre Dame Falcons lost their seventh consecutive home match at Murphy Gymnasium on Monday night, dropping a tough 3-2 decision to Urbana. (

The Falcons (5-8) have lost four out of their last five matches, and have not won at home since Oct. 1, 2010. For the Blue Knights (4-12) the victory was their second in six road tilts this season.
The two teams exchanged blows early on in the opening set, and the match was tied at 14-14, when the Blue Knights scored five out of the game's next seven points. Urbana held off a late NDC rally, and came away with a 25-20 win to go up 1-0.
While Urbana scored first in the second set, the Falcons made most of the noise early on, responding with an 8-0 run, and led by as many as nine (11-2). The Blue Knights made things interesting and rallied back, with a pair of big runs to dig into the deficit. Urbana came within one (22-21) before the Falcons called a timeout, and responded by scoring four out of the next five points to win the match, 25-21.
Notre Dame fell in an early 5-0 hole in the third set, and was never able to recover. The Falcons were down by as many as eight (20-12) in the third set, but rallied back, scoring the next seven points, narrowing the deficit to one. NDC tied the match at 22-22, but the Blue Knights muscled their way through the end of the set with a 25-23 victory.
Urbana took an early advantage in the fourth set, and didn't find themselves behind until Notre Dame took a 10-9 lead in the middle of a 7-2 run. Notre Dame never trailed after going on the 7-2 run, and forced a fifth set, with a 25-18 win.
The fifth set, belonged to Urbana from the get go. The Blue Knights scored the first two points of the set, and never fell behind, taking the match, with a 15-8 victory in the final set.
NDC captain
Lauren TURNER paced the Falcons offensively with 14 kills, while Taylor THOMAS and Brittney TINDALL chipped in with nine. Chandler MASS added 45 assists. Turner also added 20 digs to lead the Falcons defensively, while Brittany PERROTT and Kelsey SWORDS added 17 and 19 respectively.
"This was a tough match to lose," said Head Coach
Mark Ridley. "I thought our girls played hard, but we came up just a little short."
The Falcons will be in action again on Saturday, Oct. 1, when they host a tri-match at Murphy Gymnasium. The Falcons are slated to square off against Ohio Valley (W.Va.) at 11 a.m., and Central State at 3 p.m.
