VIENNA, W.Va. -- The Notre Dame Falcons snapped their three game losing streak on Friday night, by defeating Ohio Valley (W.Va.), 3-1. (

The Falcons (5-7) have now won four out of their last five games away from Murphy Gymnasium, while the Fighting Scots (3-12) the loss marked their fourth in a row.
Notre Dame found themselves in an early hole after dropping the opening set, 25-23. However, the Falcons rallied and responded in a big way, taking the second set convincingly, 25-14.
The Fighting Scots put up a better fight in the third set, but still fell four points short, as the Falcons came away with a 25-21 victory, and Notre Dame was able to seal the deal in the fourth set, with a 25-20 win to take the match.
“I'm very proud of the way our girls played today,” said Head Coach
Mark Ridley. “We played a quality opponent that has really improved, and we found a way to come out on top.”
Leading the way offensively for Notre Dame were Brianne SCHMANSKY,
Lauren TURNER and
Kari KINCANNON, who delivered 15, 13 and 12 kills respectively. First year Falcon Chandler MASS turned in 44 assists, and Rachel DACKIN delivered a trio of service aces.
Notre Dame was led defensively by Kelsey SWORDS who delivered 23 digs. Brittany PERROTT came through with a dozen digs, and Turner turned in 10. In addition, Notre Dame held the Fighting Scots to a .075 attack percentage on the evening.
The Falcons will be in action again on Monday, Sept. 26, when they welcome Urbana to Murphy Gymnasium for their third home match of the season. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
