NDC splits with Cougars

DeCrapio comes up big in opener as Falcons end losing streak

EASTLAKE, Ohio -- Notre Dame ended its four-game losing skid  on a might that ended in a split with the visiting Mount Vernon Cougars. (Gm-1 | Gm-2)

The Falcons, behind sophomore #Tyler DeCrapio#'s complete-game effort in the opener, won 5-3.  NDC then lost the nightcap, 7-4.

DeCrapio pitched seven innings allowing three runs (one earned) in Saturday's first game.  He allowed a solo run in the third inning; NDC countered with a four-hit, three-run bottom half of the third to take a 3-1 lead.

MVNU then tied the opening game at 3-3 with two runs in the fifth.  Notre Dame again countered, getting RBI hits from #Pat Ross# and Benji Jarabeck# to round out the scoring.  DeCrapio completed the game, allowing three runs (one earned) on five hits.  He struck out two and didn't walk a batter.

In game two, Mount Vernon jumped on Falcon starter Andrew Hyde for three quick runs in the first.  Leading 3-1, MVNU then scored two runs in the third and two more in the fourth to take a commanding 7-1 lead.  NDC mustered three more runs in the eventual 7-4 loss.

With the victory in game two, the Cougars earned a series win -- they took three of four in the Thursday-Saturday, home-and-home series.
