Falcons end season with back-to-back wins

PEPPER PIKE, Ohio -- The Notre Dame Falcons ended their regular season on a positive note on Saturday afternoon with a pair of victories in a tri-match against Ursuline and Houghton (N.Y.)    

The victories for the Falcons (11-19) put an end to their six match losing streak, and gives them three victories in their last five games away from Murphy Gymnasium.  

Notre Dame took the opening match against the hosts, Ursuline, 3-1, and ended the afternoon with a 3-2 victory against Houghton. 

The first match began with a 25-18 Notre Dame victory, before the Arrows tied the match in the second set, with a 25-20 win.  Notre Dame hit .375 in the third match in a 25-18 victory and took the match in the fourth set, 25-19. 

The final match of the day for NDC was an exciting one, resulting in the Falcons' second, five set victory of the season.  Houghton took the first set, 25-17, and the Falcons rallied to win the second set, 26-24.  Notre Dame edged the Highlanders, 25-23 in the third set, before Houghton forced a decisive fifth set, taking NDC, 25-21.  The Falcons had no problems taking the final set, in a runaway 15-7 victory. 

Notre Dame freshmen Chandler MASS had a huge afternoon, with 96 total assists in both matches, including 50 against the Arrows.  The frontline for NDC was very strong, as four Falcons had 10 kills or more in both matches.  Taylor THOMAS hit .444 against Ursuline, and finished the day with 25 kills, while Kari KINCANNON led the Falcons with 30 kills in the tri-match.  Kelsey SWORDS led NDC defensively with 48 digs, while Lauren TURNER delivered 26 kills and 21 digs.

The Falcons will wrap up their season at the Ohio Independent Championship tournament next week.  The date, time, location, and opponent have yet to be determined.
