GLENVILLE, W.Va. – Notre Dame freshmen Chandler MASS had 33 assists in a 3-0 loss to Alderson Broaddus in the Falcons' first of two matches on Friday night, and then delivered 53 assists in NDC's 3-1 victory over Glenville State.
The split for the Falcons (8-10) gives them victories in two out of their last three road matches, while the win for Alderson Broaddus gives them a record of 8-12 overall, and the loss sends Glenville State to 3-17.
Notre Dame was defeated in three sets against Alderson Broaddus. The Falcons battled in the opening set, but came up three points short, falling 25-22. Alderson Broaddus took the second set, 25-21, and pulled away rather easily to take the final set, 25-16.
The second match featured a very entertaining opening set, with the Falcons pulling away at the end, 29-27. The following three sets were extremely close. Glenville State evened the score with a 25-21 victory in the second set, before the Falcons pulled out the victory with back-to-back 25-22 victories in the third and fourth sets.
Mass's 53 assists in the second set, established a season best for a single match this season. Brianne SCHMANSKY was sensational in the second match, delivered a team best, 20 kills, and finished the night with 29 in both matches combined. Senior
Lauren TURNER had 12 kills in the opening contest and 15 in the second. Sophomore Kelsey SWORDS had 29 digs in both matches combined.
The Falcons will be in action again on Wednesday, Oct. 12, when they host Gannon (Pa.) at Murphy Gymnasium. The contest is slated to begin at 7 p.m.
