The Falcons (7-9) have now lost seven out of their last nine matches on their home floor, while the victory for Cedarville (13-8) marked their 1000th win in program history.
The two teams traded blows and remained very close through most of the first set. While Cedarville found themselves behind just once, they were never able to pull away from Notre Dame in the opening set until the end. The Lady Yellow Jackets were up 18-16, when they went on a 6-0 run to pull away, taking the first set, 25-17.
The second set started out much like the first one, with Cedarville falling behind just once, but never pulled away through the first half of the set. The Yellow Jackets held a 12-11 lead, and then went on an 8-2 run, to pull away, winning the second set, 25-14.
Cedarville put the Falcons into an early 5-0 hole, and Notre Dame was never able to recover. The Falcons pulled within four (12-8), but that was as closed as they'd get the rest of the way. The Yellow Jackets went on a 10-1 run to take a 22-9 lead, and won the final set convincingly, 25-11.
The Falcons were led by
Lauren TURNER, who had six kills, and hit .333 on the night. Chandler MASS paced the Falcons with 17 assists. Turner and Kelsey SWORDS paced the Falcons defensively with eight digs each.
"This was a tough loss for us tonight," said Head Coach
Mark Ridley. "Our girls played hard, but these injuries are extremely tough to overcome."
The Falcons will be in action again on Friday, Oct. 7, when they participate in a tri-match with Alderson Broaddus (W.Va.) and Glenville State (W.Va.). The Falcons are slated to take on Alderson Broaddus at 5 p.m. and Glenville State at 7 p.m.
