Blue Knights rally to beat Falcons

URBANA, Ohio --The Notre Dame Falcons took the first two sets of Tuesday night's match against Urbana, but the Blue Knights rallied and won the final three, delivering the Falcons a crushing, 3-2 loss on the road. (Box

The loss for the Falcons (9-16) was their sixth in their last seven matches, and was their second loss in five sets against the Blue Knights this season.  The victory for Urbana (8-20) snapped a three match losing streak.

The opening set required an extra 18 points, as the Falcons outlasted the Blue Knights, to score a 35-33 victory.  Notre Dame was able to carry the momentum of the big victory into their second set, where they dominated Urbana, in a convincing, 25-14 victory.

Urbana responded, with a 25-15 victory in the third set, and stunned the Falcons with another 25-15 victory in the fourth set, to force a decisive fifth.  In the fifth set, Urbana used a .353 attack percentage, and edged the Falcons, 15-13 to complete the comeback.

Notre Dame captain Lauren TURNER paced the NDC offense with 18 kills on the night, while Brianne SCHMANSKY delivered 17, and Kari KINCANNON had 15, while hitting .382 on the evening.  Chandler MASS had 48 assists, while Kelsey SWORDS and Brittany PERROTT led the charge defensively, with 22 and 16 kills respectively.

The loss spoiled NDC's bid to avenge a five set loss against the Blue Knights earlier this season.  Urbana defeated the Falcons at Murphy Gymnasium back on Sept. 26, 3-2.  The two teams split the season series last year.

The Falcons will be in action again on Saturday, Oct. 29, when they host a tri-match at Murphy Gymnasium.  The Falcons are scheduled to take on Rio Grande at 11 a.m., and Fairmont State (W.Va.) at 3 p.m.
