WILBERFORCE, Ohio --The Notre Dame Falcons snapped a four match losing streak on Saturday afternoon's tri-match, as they defeated Central State, and lost to the Cumberlands (Ky.).
The split for the Falcons (9-15) gives them two victories over Central State this season, and three over the Lady Marauders over the last two seasons. The win for NDC was their first, since defeating Glenville State (W.Va.) back on Oct. 7.
The Falcons handled Central State rather easily. They took the first set 25-16, before taking it to the Lady Marauders, 25-7 in the second set, and won the match with a 25-17 victory in the third.
Notre Dame took the first set in the second match, 25-15, but then lost three very close sets. The Cumberlands evened the match with a 25-22 victory in the second set, before winning 25-20 in the third, and won the match in a tight, 26-24 decision in the final set.
Brianne SCHMANSKY and
Lauren TURNER led the Falcons on the day with 23 and 22 kills respectively, while Chandler MASS turned in 85 assists on the afternoon. Sophomore Kelsey SWORDS paced NDC defensively with 34 digs.
The Falcons will be in action again on Tuesday, Oct. 25, when they look for redemption on the road against Urbana. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
