NDC loses streak-breaker

Christensen’s late goal not enough as Falcons fall

Buckhannon, W.Va. – Notre Dame was on the verge of their longest winning streak since 2007 on Saturday night at West Virginia Wesleyan. The Bobcats had other ideas, scoring two goals in the opening 27 minutes to drop NDC for the first time in seven matches, 2-1. (Box)
 
With the loss, the Falcons now sit at 10-3-0 while Wesleyan improves to 8-3-2.
 
West Virginia Wesleyan came out on fire to start the match, pressuring the NDC defense right from the start. The Bobcats accumulated eight total shots in the first 45 minutes, keeping Kristy Kolschetzky busy throughout the half. Rachel Ritchey fired four shots during the first frame finding the back of the net on her third and fourth shots. Kolschetzky made five of her career tying 10 saves in the opening half. 
 
Just when it seemed that the match was destined for a 2-0 loss, Notre Dame scored to bring one back in the 90th minute courtesy of senior forward, Katie Christensen. The Sandy, Utah, native followed on a saved shot and buried home her team leading seventh goal of the season.
 
Through the match Notre Dame was dominated being outshot 21-3 and trailed 10- in corner kicks. 
 
The Falcons will next be in action for their final game of the season on Wednesday at 4 p.m. when they travel to Pepper Pike, Ohio, to face the Arrows of Ursuline.
