Falcons fall to Gannon

Notre Dame fall in three sets to Gannon

SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio -- A furious front line attack by the Golden Knights of Gannon (Pa.) University proved to be a little too much for the Falcons to handle on Wednesday, as they fell to Gannon in straight sets at Murphy Gymnasium. (Box

The loss for the Falcons (8-11) gives them three in their last four matches, and was their fifth on their home floor this season.  The victory for Gannon (15-6) gives them four in a row, and they've now won five out of their last six.

Notre Dame was only able to score a dozen points in the opening set, as the Golden Knights had 13 kills and hit .444 to take the first set, 25-12.

The second set turned out much like the first, with the Golden Knights establishing an early lead that they never relinquished.  The Golden Knights again reached 13 kills and hit .455 in the set to take a 25-13 win.

The Falcons performed a little better in the final set.  Notre Dame was ahead, 7-5 early on, but Gannon turned in on and scored the next four points in the match, and never looked back, taking the set, and the match, 25-17.

In her return to the starting lineup, Kari KINCANNON led the Falcons with eight kills on the night.  The senior from LaGrange, Ohio, had missed the last three matches with a wrist injury.  NDC captain Lauren TURNER delivered five kills and nine digs, while Brittany PERROTT led the Falcons with 11 digs, and Kelsey SWORDS had 10.  Freshmen Chandler MASS paced the Falcons with 23 assists.

The Falcons will be in action again on Thursday, Oct. 13, when they host Ursuline at Murphy Gymnasium. The contest is slated to begin at 7 p.m.
