NDC nails its first win of the season

Falcons snap eight game skid with win over Concord

FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- The Notre Dame Falcons snapped an eight match losing streak on the final day of the Falcon Fest tournament, when they defeated Concord (W.Va.) in straight sets, after losing a close match to begin play on Saturday, 3-1, against West Liberty (W.Va.). (Gm-1 | Gm-2)

In the first match, the Falcons played West Liberty extremely close, losing the first two matches by just two points (25-23, 25-23). Notre Dame responded by beating West Liberty, 25-14, in the third match to force a fourth, where they were defeated, 25-20.

Notre Dame responded positively in their next match by handing Concord a loss in straight sets. The Falcons handled Concord rather easily, winning 25-18, 25-15 and 25-12, to secure their first victory of the season. In their 25-18 victory in the first set, the Falcons had 18 kills, and posted a remarkable .666 attack percentage.

“I really felt like we played extremely well against West Liberty, and could sense that we were getting ready to pop,” said Head Coach #Mark Ridley#. “Our girls did a wonderful job of responding to the loss in a match where they played extremely well, and carried the momentum into the next match to secure a victory.”

#Brianne Schmansky# led the charge for Notre Dame 14 kills in the second match, and ended the afternoon with 32 kills altogether. #Jessica Suvak# performed very well with 18 digs and 25 kills, while #Tayler Pugliese# turned in 81 assists on the afternoon and 18 digs. #Cristin Brown# had another successful day as well with 26 digs and #Kari Kincannon# finished the final day of the tournament with 23 kills.

Notre Dame will play their first home contest of the season on Tuesday, Sept. 7, when they welcome Lake Erie to Murphy Gymnasium. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
