Fairmont, W.Va. -- The Notre Dame Falcons won their first two sets of the season at the Falcon Fest tournament on Friday night, but dropped a pair of matches to Point Park (Pa.) and Fairmont State (W.Va.). (

Notre Dame (0-7) began the afternoon against the host, Fairmont State, and fell in straight sets, 26-24, 25-20, and 25-23. The Falcons then won their first two sets of the season in their next match, falling in five sets to fellow American Mideast Conference foe, Point Park. The Falcons took the first, and third sets by scores of 25-22, but lost sets two and four 25-21, and 25-21 before falling 15-9 in the fifth set.
By winning two sets in the match against Point Park, the Falcons snapped a skid of six consecutive matches without a set victory. Notre Dame fought hard against Fairmont State, tallying 60 kills in the three set match, and lost by just two points in the extended first set.
“I am very proud of the way our girls performed tonight,” said Head Coach #Mark Ridley#. “We played with a sense of urgency today, both matches could have gone either way, and we are improving from one match to the next.”
#Jessica Suvak#'s 13 kills paced the Falcons in the first match, and she finished with a team high, 21 kills on the afternoon, while #Kari Kincannon# added 18 kills. #Tayler Pugliese# added 74 assists in both matches combined and #Cristin Brown# finished the first day of the tournament with 41 digs.
Notre Dame is back in action on Saturday, when they continue play in the Falcon Fest tournament, hosted by Fairmont State. The Falcons will play a pair of matches on Saturday, beginning with Glenville State (W.Va.) at 11:30 a.m., and they will square off against Concord (W.Va.) at 4:30 p.m.
