INDIANOLA, Pa. -- Notre Dame remained unbeaten over its last six games and in American Mideast Conference play with a 5-0 victory over Carlow (2-5-0).
The Falcons got a goal from #Ashley Rucker#, a senior forward from Rocky River, Ohio in the 10th minute off an assist from #Alex Mannier#, for her team best second of the season. That goal would be all Notre Dame (4-1-2) would need to preserve its fourth consecutive clean sheet, third in the AMC, running their conference mark to 3-0-0. The NDC defense was solid throughout and Falcon midfielders and forwards kept pressure on the hosts, earning their second goal just four minutes later. #Katie Christensen# a junior from Sandy, Utah scored her team leading third goal on an assist from #Callan Camin# a freshman from Beachwood, Ohio in the 14th minute.
Continuing the pressure, the Falcons scored third goal when Rucker completed her brace in the 17th minute unassisted. #Morgan Lichtinger# a senior from Roseville, Calif. scored her second free kick goal of the season at the 20:59 mark extending the Falcons lead to 4-0.
Outshooting their opponents in the opening period 11-8 and holding a 4-0 advantage on corner kicks, the Falcons led 4-0 at the break.
Returning from injury #Emilie Lamarch# replaced #Brittany Cruz# between the pipes for the Falcons to start the second period. Cruz a junior from Amherst, Ohio made 3 saves in the opening 45 minutes before Lamarch a senior from Rockland, Ont. finished the match for the first time in 2010 after leaving their match against Martin Methodist in the 66th minute. Lamarch would complete the shutout, the Falcons fifth consecutive without facing a shot on target.
Completing the five star effort, #Emily Balodis#, a freshman from Cleveland, Ohio scored her first goal of the season in the 52nd minute unassisted.
“We struggled to finish some things off the other day,” said Head Coach
Mike Shiels. “We had two days of practice between games, and they approached today's game the right way, putting the result out of reach early.”
