Falcons notch third straight shutout in 1-0 win over Ursuline

GATES MILLS, Ohio -- Notre Dame remained unbeaten over its last five games and in American Mideast Conference play with a 1-0 victory over Ursuline on Wednesday. (Box)

The Falcons got a goal from senior midfielder #Morgan Lichtinger# in the 47th minute after the two AMC foes played a scoreless first half. That goal would be all Notre Dame (3-1-2) would need to preserve its third consecutive shutout and run its conference mark to 2-0. The NDC defense was solid throughout and Falcon midfielders and forwards kept pressure on the visiting Arrows (2-4, 0-4 AMC), not allowing more than a few threats in the contest.

The home match was played at Weber Stadium on the campus of Gilmour Academy in Gates Mills, Ohio. With the victory, Notre Dame is now 2-0 on the season and 9-1 in 10 all-time meetings against their eastside neighbors at UC.

The Falcons out-shot the Arrows, 16-6, for the game. NDC had a 4-3 edge in shots on goal. Their edge in the category that counts the most was provided in the early moments of the second half. NDC got on the board in the 47th minute when Lichtinger put a 28-yard free kick top-shelf left, over a sprawling Rachael Smith in goal.

That goal would hold up, with last week's AMC Defensive Player of the Week #Kristy Kolschetzky# making a pair of routine stops between the pipes over the last 10 minutes of the match.

“We executed well throughout much of the game,” said Head Coach #Mike Shiels#. “I saw some areas of our game that need work, though -- some areas where the girls need to focus more to get the most out of their game.”
