NORTH CANTON, Ohio -- The Notre Dame Falcons entered Tuesday evening's contest with hopes of bringing a pair of losing skids to an end, but NDC came out on the wrong end of a 3-0 decision, falling to Walsh, 25-18, 25-19, and 25-14.
For the Falcons (1-15), the loss was their seventh in a row, and their eighth in a row to the Cavaliers. For the Cavaliers (10-2), the victory was their sixth in a row. Walsh hasn't lost a match since Sept. 4, and they haven't lost to the Falcons since 2001.
The Falcons turned in their best performance of the night in the second set, registering 13 kills, with a .481 attack percentage. Unfortunately, NDC was not able to get much going in the other two sets, falling to the defending American Mideast Conference tournament champions.
No Falcons were able to register double digit kills, but #Jessica Suvak# led with way with seven, while #Taylor Thomas# finished with six and #Brianne Schmansky# had five. Senior #Cristin Brown# once again led the way for Notre Dame defensively with 10 digs, while #Tayler Pugliese# finished the match with 23 assists.
Tuesday night's match marked the conference opener for both teams. Notre Dame went 5-7 in the AMC a year ago, while the Cavaliers posted an 8-4 conference record, and won the AMC tournament, qualifying for the NAIA National tournament.
The Falcons are in action again on Friday, Sept. 24, for their second home match of the season, as they welcome Roberts Wesleyan (N.Y.) to College Road. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
