Falcons swept at Walsh Invitational

CANTON, Ohio -- The Notre Dame Falcons were swept over the weekend at the Walsh Invitational, as they lost twice in three sets on Saturday afternoon. (Gm-1 | Gm-2)

For the Falcons (1-13) the losses extended their losing streak to five matches, and dropped them to 1-12 in tournament play this season. The Falcons lost in straight sets to Northwestern Ohio in their first match of the afternoon. The Racers (8-5), set the tone early on with a 25-19 victory in the first set, then followed by dominating the second set, winning 25-12 and finished the match victory with a 25-16 triumph in the final set.

It didn't get any better for the Falcons in their second match of the day. They were taken care of in three sets by Aquinas (Mich.), and tallied just 25 kills over those three sets. The Falcons fell 25-10, 25-15 and 25-14 to finish the tournament.

#Jessica Suvak# paced the Falcons with 13 kills on the evening, and #Brianne Schmansky# chipped in with 12. #Cristin Brown# once again led the way for the Falcons defensively with 31 digs, and finished the tournament with 58 throughout the tournament. #Tayler Pugliese# led the Falcons with 42 assists, giving her 83 over the four matches in the tournament.

Notre Dame will be back in action on Tuesday, Sept. 7, when they lock horns with Mercyhurst (Pa.). The match will begin at 7 p.m.

NOTES FROM THE NEST

DIGGING DEEP: Brown is also NDC's leader in digs, with 164 on the season.

TOURNEY TIME: The Walsh Invitational is the third tournament that the Falcons have participated in this season. NDC is not slated to play in any more tournaments in the 2010 campaign. NDC is 1-12 in tournament play this season.

TAYLER-MADE: Junior #Tayler Pugliese# is the Falcons' leader in assists this season, with 378.
