Falcons fall to John Carroll

Blue Streaks handle Falcons in three sets

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio -- The Notre Dame Falcons were defeated in straight sets by John Carroll at the DeCarlo Varsity Center on Wednesday night, to fall to 0-5 on the season. (Box)

John Carroll defeated the Falcons 25-17, 25-19, and 25-19. The loss snapped Notre Dame's four game winning streak against the Blue Streaks, dating back to the 2007 season. For the Falcons, the loss was their fifth in a row. Last year, NDC started out the season in similar fashion by losing four in a row, and then rallied to finish one game above .500. The contest was John Carroll's first this season.

The youthful Falcons were led by #Kari Kincannon#, #Taylor Thomas# and #Brianne Schmansky#, with six kills each. Kincannon currently leads the Falcons with 34 kills over the first five matches this season. #Cristin Brown# paced the Falcons with 18 digs and #Tayler Pugliese# garnered 24 assists in the loss.

John Carroll's incredible defense held the Falcons to a .115 attack percentage, and came up with 61 digs in the three set match. Teresa Noewer hit .476 on the match and led all players with 12 kills.

“We'll use these last five games as a learning experience,” said Head Coach #Mark Ridley#. “We are working very hard to continue to improve with each match.”

Wednesday's match marked the fifth meeting between the neighboring institutions since 2007, and marked the 26th meeting in the all-time series. The 40-year old series dates all the way back to 1970, with the two clubs dead even at 13 wins apiece.

Notre Dame is back in action this Friday, when they begin play in the Falcon Fest tournament, hosted by Fairmont State. The Falcons will play a pair of matches on Friday afternoon, beginning with Glenville State (W.Va.) at 12:30 p.m., and they will square off against West Liberty (W.Va.) at 5:30 p.m.
