Winter Haven, Fla. -- The Notre Dame Falcons split a double header on Friday afternoon, falling to Bethel (Ind.) 5-3 in their first game, and defeated Concordia (Mich.) 4-3 in their back end of their twin bill, to match last year's win total.
The Falcons (10-3) took an early lead in the first inning of their opening contest against Bethel, on #Travis Brown#'s two-run single to snag a 2-0 lead. Bethel was blanked in the first frame, but tallied five runs over the next two innings, and never looked back.
Notre Dame snagged an early lead in their second game, grabbing a 1-0 lead in the first inning when #Tony Younis# scored on Brown's groundout. Concordia plated a trio of runs in the third inning to take 3-1 lead, but the Falcons were able to tie the contest in the home half of the third, on #Benji Jarabeck#'s run scoring single. NDC used RBI singles from Jarabeck and #Ryan Weaver# to take the lead for good in the fifth inning.
#Brent Edmonds# took the loss in the first contest, allowing four runs over 2 1/3 innings, while #Travis Bondy# came on in relief to allow just a run on three hits over 3 2/3, retiring six out of the last seven batters he faced. #Simon Davis# came out of the bullpen to secure the victory for the Falcons in game two, allowing just one hit over 3 2/3 innings. Davis began his outing by retiring eight in a row, and sat down 11 out of Concordia's final 12 batters.
Notre Dame will finish their trip to Florida with a matchup against Madonna (Mich.) at 10:00 am on Saturday morning.
