Falcons stung in season finale

Notre Dame drops final match of the season

SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio -- In their final match of the 2010 season, the Notre Dame Falcons were not able to get past Cedarville at Murphy Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon, as the Yellow Jackets handled the Falcons in three sets.

The loss brought an end to what has been a long season for the Falcons (4-29, 1-9), who end the season with just one home victory. For Cedarville (16-17, 6-4), the victory was just their fifth on the road this season, and they have now beaten NDC is six out of their last seven matches.

Notre Dame was limited to just eight kills in the opening set, as Cedarville scored a 25-18 victory. Notre Dame was unable to do much more damage against the Yellow Jackets, as the Falcons were held to just 15 points in their next two sets, dropping a pair of 25-15 decisions.

In the final match of her career, senior #Cristin Brown# had four digs. Fellow senior #Jessica Suvak# finished her career with a half-dozen kills and led the Falcons with eight digs on the afternoon. #Kari Kincannon# and #Brianne Schmansky# paced the Falcons with eight kills each. Suvak and #Kelsey Swords# led the Falcons with eight digs a piece. #Tayler Pugliese# once again led Notre Dame with 24 assists.

The loss brings an end to Notre Dame's season. The Falcons failed to make the post season, and finished with a record of 1-9 in conference play, placing them tenth in the conference standings.

NOTES FROM THE NEST

REMEMBERING THE SENIORS: Suvak and Brown, Notre Dame's two lone seniors, finished off their NDC careers with good numbers in their final season. Brown led Notre Dame with 450 digs on the year, averaging 4.54 digs per set. Suvak's 227 kills were second most on the team, and she was second behind Brown with 269 digs.

KILLIN' EM' SOFTLY: Schmansky was Notre Dame's leader on the season with 245 kills, while Kincannon led the Falcons with a 2.77 kills per set average, despite missing a significant amount of time with an arm injury.

ACES AND ASSISTS: Suvak also led the Falcons with 11 serving aces on the season, and Pugliese was the Falcons' leader in assists, with 919, averaging 8.27 assists per set.
