Falcons bomb way to road victory

Morgan Lichtinger's midfield strike lift Falcons

CEDARVILLE, Ohio -- #Alex Mannier# and #Morgan Lichtinger# each netted their third goal of the season to give the Falcons (7-2-3, 5-1-1 AMC) a 2-1 win over Cedarville (5-9-1, 3-3-1 AMC) giving the Falcons back to back wins in the American Mideast Conference.

Notre Dame entered the match three points behind league leading Roberts Wesleyan (11-2-1, 7-0-1 AMC) after defeating Walsh 1-0 on Oct. 11 at Korb Field.

The Yellow Jackets opened the match with consistent pressure on the Falcons goal forcing #Kristy Kolschetzky#, a freshman from Mentor, Ohio into action early and often. After tuning Cedarville away #Emily Balodis#, a freshman from Cleveland, Ohio sent a pointed pass towards the Yellow Jackets penalty area and #Katie Christensen#. Christensen, a junior from Sandy, Utah would be taken down by two Cedarville defenders before getting a touch on the ball. As the referee signaled advantage, #Alex Mannier#, a freshman from Troy, Ohio charged in on goal. Mannier put the finishing touch through the five hole of CU's keeper for the Falcons 1-0 lead at the 17:10 mark. The goal marked Mannier's third goal of the season and Balodis' second assist.

Cedarville's pressure would pay off in the 30th minute when Anna Schmid received a slipped pass from Sarah Brownfield. Schmid smash towards the near post beat Kolschetzky leveling the score at 1-1. The goal marked the first goal against Kolschetzky in over 236 minutes of action.

#Morgan Lichtinger#, a senior from Roseville, Calif. would provide an unexpected bomb from fifty plus yards, bouncing over the CU keepers head for a 2-1 lead at the 43:51 mark and the eventual match winner. The goal marked Lichtinger's third goal of the season and her second game winning goal.

Despite the Falcons being outshoot 6-3 and trailing 1-0 on corner kicks through the opening 45 minutes, they would lead 2-1.

After the break, the ladies in blue and white would face nine second half shots only mustering one against the Yellow Jackets goal. NDC's defense provide every answer to turn away the Yellow Jackets attack and Kolschetzky would come up with six second half saves earning the Falcons second straight AMC conference win.

The loss marked Cedarville's second consecutive loss extending their winless streak to four matches.

Kolschetzky, recorded eight saves on the day while CU's keeper Alysia Bennett was credited with 1 in the loss. The Falcons would trail 15-4 in shots, 8-0 in corner kicks but would leave Yellow Jacket Stadium with their second consecutive 2-1 win in the last two seasons.
