SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio -- The Notre Dame Falcons snapped both a five-match home losing streak, and a 14-match losing skid overall as they defeated Central State, 3-0, at Murphy Gymnasium on Monday. (Box

For the Falcons (2-22, 0-5), the victory marked their first since Sept. 4, meaning the squad went 37 days between wins. For the Marauders (0-12), the loss leaves them looking for their first victory in nearly an entire calendar year -- CSU's last win came on Oct. 16, 2009.

The Blue & White hit a season-high .297 on Monday, downing the Marauders by scores of 25-7, 25-17 and 25-15.

“It's nice to get back in the win column again,” said Head Coach #Mark Ridley#. “We got a little sloppy in that second set, but I thought our front court played exceptionally well. We did what we needed to do to get the win; now we want to build on this and carry the positives forward.”

One of those positives on Monday night was #Brianne Schmansky#, who hit .438 in racking up a team-high seven kills. #Taylor Thomas# added six kills while hitting .600. Over the three sets, NDC posted attack percentages of .368, .200 and .310. The Falcons came into the match hitting just .130 on the season.

#Tayler Pugliese# had 24 assists on the night. #Cristin Brown# posted a team-high nine digs. Seven Falcons earned service aces on a night when the team posted a season high in aces (NDC had 14). #Jessica Suvak# had four of those aces, doubling her season total to date. Prior to Monday's tilt with the Marauders, NDC had collected just 32 aces in 23 matches.

The Falcons will be back in action again on Tuesday, Oct. 12, when they host Urbana in a non-conference tilt at Murphy Gymnasium. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.

NOTES FROM THE NEST

LONG ROAD AHEAD: Tuesday's match against Urbana marks Notre Dame's last home game for a couple of weeks. The Falcons will play four straight on the road after Tuesday's tilt, and don't come back to College Road again until Tuesday, Oct. 26. Notre Dame's first victory came away from College Road, as they are a combined 1-16 between road matches and matches played at neutral sites.

BLOCK PARTY: Natalie Houdek is Notre Dame's leader on the season with 50 total blocks, including 26 solos. She had one block assist on Monday. Freshmen #Taylor Thomas# ranks second on the team, with 47 total blocks.

DIGGING DEEP: In posting nine digs on Monday, senior #Cristin Brown# registered single-digit digs in a match for the first time in the 2010 season. Brown now has 313 digs on the season.
