NDC Athletics announces social media initiatives

Falcons take to tweeting and blogs

SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – Falcon Athletics fans now have even more access to news and updates about Notre Dame College sports. The NDC Athletic Department announced today that they have added the use of social media to the newly launched NotreDameFalcons.com website.

Fans following the official Notre Dame Athletics site “NDC_Falcons” on Twitter will be updated with news, scores, recaps, upcoming events and more when they sign up. Once a follower, fans can receive updates on NDC Athletics.

In addition to the school's official athletics twitter site, coaches have also added their own sites linkable from the program's webpage, allowing an insider's view of the sport from the coach's perspective.
Twitter, a free social networking and micro-blogging service available at twitter.com, allows its users to send and read other users' updates (also known as "tweets"). Fans can receive updates on Falcons Athletics on their mobile phone, through e-mail or directly from the internet.

The coaches currently tweeting include the following sports:

Baseball: http://twitter/com/Coach_Weisheipl

Men's and Women's Swimming & Diving: http://twitter.com/Coach_Gallagher

Women's Lacrosse: http://twitter.com/CoachTorrey

Men's and Women's Track & Field: http://twitter.com/ricofranklin

Men's Soccer: https://twitter.com/CoachMac_Soccer

Men's Basketball: http://twitter.com/CoachBille

Fans do not need to sign up for Twitter to access the site, but to receive automatic updates, fans will need to create a Twitter account. To create a free account, simply click on the button in the upper-right corner of the page that reads, "Join Today!"

NotreDameFalcons.com has also added student-athlete and coach blogs to provide fans with an insider look of several Falcon sports. The blogs can be found on each sport's homepage once they are live.

“Social media is an exciting new initiative not only for our programs but for the entire college community,” said Director of Athletics Sue Hlavacek. “It's a wonderful way to engage our fans and keep them informed of all the successes of NDC Athletics.”
