Falcons split a pair in two Pa. tourney matches

CLARION, Pa. – Notre Dame competed in day-one of the two-day Clarion Invitational Friday. The Falcons took on Davis & Elkins (WV) and host Clarion University (PA), earning a split in the pair of matches.

NDC started the day with a 3-0 victory over Davis & Elkins. The Falcons bested the Senators, 25-23, 25-15, 25-15. Sophomore swatter Katie Barbis (Mentor, Ohio)led the Falcon attack, with 11 kills. Kate Verhoff (Jr./Elyria, OH) had 29 assists, and Jessica Parks (Jr./Mesquite, TX) came up with 11 digs in the three-set shutout.

In the nightcap, Notre Dame was toppled, 3-0, by Clarion. The Golden Eagles nipped the Falcons, 25-23, in the opening set and then finished off NDC 25-21 and 25-19. Newcomer Kari Kincannon (Fr./LaGrange, OH) led the Falcons with 12 kills in the match. Parks again led the squad in digs, with 18.

Notre Dame (3-3) will play Tiffin and Holy Family (PA) in day two of the invitational tournament on Saturday.
