Fisher, DeWeese earn All-MEC Second Team recognition

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va – The Mountain East Conference announced its softball All-Conference honors for the 2024 season and Notre Dame College's Grace Fisher and Katelyn DeWeese both took a spot on the All-MEC Second Team. (MEC Release)

The Falcons set another record for the most wins in their NCAA Division II era this year by winning 33 games, up from 31 last year. That's the most wins in a season for the program since 2009, when NDC won 34 games.

Grace Fisher has had another tremendous season as a sophomore. She currently has a record of 16-10, an ERA of 3.37 with 17 complete games in 29 appearances as a pitcher and 26 starts. Over 165 2/3 innings in the circle, Fisher has taken over the program record in single-season strikeouts with 174 and she is one shutout away from tying the program record of seven in a season. Right now, her six shutouts rank 25th among pitchers across NCAA Division II. This season, she has reached double-digit strikeouts in four separate games and has thrown two one-hitters in the last three weeks. Last week, Fisher was named MEC Pitcher of the Week after allowing zero runs in two starts, while striking out 21 in 13 innings of work

In just two years with the program, Fisher is already one win away from cracking the top five on the program career wins list, she is tied for third in career shutouts, fourth in career strikeouts, seventh in innings pitched and seventh in complete games.

Katelyn DeWeese became an incredibly important piece to the Falcons this season, taking over the center field position and she became the leadoff hitter. DeWeese leads the team with 52 hits, 46 runs scored, six triples, 33 walks, 28 stolen bases and a .441 on-base percentage. She ranks 16th in D2 with her six triples. The Grove City, Ohio native is also second on the team with a .319 batting average, 74 total bases and is third with 10 doubles. One of only two Falcons to play and start all 55 games, she has a fielding percentage of .975.

DeWeese has had 11 multi-hit games this year and three games with multiple stolen bases. She became the program leader in career stolen bases and her 28 this year ranks second in a single-season at NDC. The senior needs one more triple to tie the single-season record in that category and is second in program history with her 33 walks.

Notre Dame plays Glenville State in the first round of the MEC Tournament, on May 1. First pitch is scheduled for 8 p.m.
