Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Falcons fall in a tight battle against the Mountain Lions

SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – When Notre Dame College and Concord University have went head-to-head this season, the entertainment level has been very high. After an overtime finish in the first meeting back in December, NDC and CU were separated by no more than 10 points, on Wednesday. Concord walked away with an 87-79 victory.

The Falcons were not afraid to shoot from long range in the first half, knocking down seven 3-pointers in the opening 20 minutes. And it began early when junior Joshua Dames and junior Andre Harris each knocked down a 3-pointer in the first four minutes of the contest. Harris' triple gave NDC an 8-6 lead, with 16:54 on the first half clock.

Notre Dame finished the contest shooting 44-percent from long range, which is tied for the third highest percentage in a game this season.

After Kollin Tolbert knocked down a jumper for Concord, to tie the score at eight, both teams went into a scoring drought. The first points in nearly two minutes were scored by junior Jamarr Talbert Jr., with an assist by freshman Robbie Cass. On the defensive side, sophomore Jevontae Jones stole the ball, which led to an offensive rebound after a miss and eventual layup by Jones to put NDC up by four, 12-8.

Concord would come right back and, between the 12:46-mark and the 11:08-mark, the lead changed hands five times. However, after the Mountain Lions grabbed the lead, they went on a 9-3 run and led by five points, 24-19, with 8:38 to go in the first half.

CU pushed its lead to eight points before NDC struck back. Senior Trent Williams, who made several clutch shots throughout the night, sank a three-pointer that started an 8-2 NDC run. Junior Gbolahan Adio passed to Williams for the first three, Williams passed to Adio on the next possession for another three and then Harris made two free throws. With just under two minutes to go before the half, the Falcons trailed by two points, 39-37.

The Mountain Lions went to the halftime break leading by eight, 45-37. The first 20 minutes featured seven lead changes and five ties.

NDC took advantage of sloppy play by Concord to begin the second half. The Mountain Lions turned the ball over twice in the first minute and Notre Dame went on an 8-0 run to tie the game at 45, with 17:55 to go in the game. The Falcons did all that damage with three layups and a mid-range jumper.

Notre Dame tied the game up three times in the second half, but never grabbed the lead.

With 9:27 to go, Adio found Williams for another jumper to tie the game at 59. It then became a game of runs. Concord scored 10 straight to pull ahead, 69-59, before the Falcons put together an 11-4 run.

At the 4:42-mark, Williams came through again as the momentum was beginning to swing NDC's way. He knocked down a triple to fire up the home crowd and pull the home team within three points, 73-70.

Nearly two minutes later, NDC was down by three points (75-72), again, and had the ball with a chance to tie. However, a couple of late turnovers gave the ball back to Concord.

Williams made six shots from the field in the second half and had 14 points. He finished with 20, which tied his season high. Junior RJ Ogom scored 10 of his 12 points in the second stanza. The Falcons shot the ball at 42-percent in the final 20 minutes and made one more three than Concord did. The Falcons also beat the Mountain Lions in the points in the paint category, 28-14, in the second half

The Falcons are back on the road this Saturday, Feb. 10, for a 3 p.m. start.
