Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men’s basketball jumps out to early lead, gets balanced scoring in win over Glenville State

GLENVILLE, Ohio – Notre Dame College has played a lot of games away from home since the beginning of the calendar year. But, the Falcons continue to take care of business, running their road win streak to five games, with an 88-77 win over Glenville State University, on Saturday.

Entering the day, Glenville State had an 8-2 record when playing in the Waco Center this season. The Falcons did not have any concerns about that as they jumped out to a 15-2 lead, less than seven minutes into the contest.

Junior Andre Harris put the first two points on the scoreboard and the Pioneers responded with a layup to tie the game, before the Falcons took off. Junior Gbolahan Adio took the ball away from GSU, right under his own basket, and put the ball back up for a layup. That was the beginning of a 13-0 run for NDC.

Junior RJ Ogom went on a personal 8-0 run, beginning with a layup at the 10-minute mark. After GSU cut the lead down to seven points (21-14), Ogom knocked down back-to-back threes.

The Falcons pushed the lead back up to 18 points, 33-15, when junior Joshua Dames sent a pass to sophomore Devin Haid for a 3-point basket, with 5:57 remaining in the first half.

Both Ogom and Haid scored 12 points in the first half of the contest.

When Harris made a layup, with 2:14 remaining in the first half, the Falcons had put 45 points on the board, the most points scored in a first half by NDC since Jan. 17.

Notre Dame led Glenville State, 45-37, at halftime. The Falcons were shooting 52-percent from the field, and 40-percent from three, when they went into the locker room. The Falcons held the Pioneers to 37-percent shooting.

However, NDC did go into a slump on the offensive end and between the 2:14-mark in the first half and 16:11-mark in the second half, Notre Dame did not score a point.

After GSU's Dominiq Penn hit a triple, early in the second half, the Pioneers took a 46-45 lead. That was their first lead of the game.

Sophomore Jevontae Jones knocked down two free throws and Adio sent a 3-pointer through the net to put the Falcons back in front by four, 50-46. Senior Trent Williams and Haid hit back-to-back threes to keep NDC in front by five points, 59-54, with 13 minutes remaining.

After the Falcons took the lead back, early in the second half, they could not expand the lead past seven points until the 7:32-mark. That's when Jones grabbed an offensive rebound, following a missed free throw, and put the ball back up and in to put the Falcons ahead by eight points, 76-68.

That was the momentum swing the Falcons needed to put the game away as the Falcons went on a 7-3 run, following that Jones' layup, and led by 13 points, 83-70, with 3:12 left in the game.

Adio went 4-for-7 from the field and led the team with 10 points in the second half. He finished the game with 15 points, to go along five rebounds.

Haid made six field goals and four 3-pointers for a 21-point performance, while Harris had 15 points and six rebounds. Ogom shot 50-percent from the field, scoring 14 points in the game and Jones went 3-for-3 from the field and 4-for-4 from the free throw line for 10 points, his first double-digit scoring game since Dec. 30.

As a team, the Falcons outrebounded GSU, 48-43. The Falcons had a season-high 34 defensive rebounds and fourth most total rebounds in a game this season.

The Falcons will be at home on Feb. 14, for a matchup with the University of Charleston, which will begin at 7:30 p.m.
