Women's basketball concludes road trip at WV Wesleyan before hosting D&E this weekend

This Week: The Notre Dame College women's basketball rounds out their road trip at West Virginia Wesleyan College on Wednesday, Jan. 31 at 5:30 p.m. The Falcons return to Murphy Gymnasium on Saturday Feb. 3 at 2 p.m. when Davis & Elkins College comes to town.
 
Records: NDC begins the week at 5-13 (2-9 MEC), as WVWC is 4-11 (2-9 MEC) and D&E sits at 2-14 (1-10 MEC).
 
Coaches Corner: Lauren Macer is back at the helm of the Notre Dame College women's basketball team in her second stint and fifth season as head coach. Macer, the 2019-20 MEC Coach of the Year, maintains an 83-45 career record. Brett Vincent is in his third season as head coach of WV Wesleyan, while Donna Carr is the head coach of Davis & Elkins.
 
Rankings: None of these teams are ranked according to the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) poll.
 
Series History: Notre Dame is 19-2 all-time when playing against WV Wesleyan, dating back to their first meeting in 2013-14 and including the Falcons 69-66 victory back on Dec. 9 inside Murphy Gymnasium. NDC held WVWC scoreless over the final five minutes of the contest to earn the victory. Notre Dame is 6-2 all-time when facing D&E, dating back to their first meeting in 2019-20 and including the Senators 76-66 win back on Dec. 6 in Elkins, WV.
 
Noting the Falcons: Last week, Notre Dame fell at Wheeling, 71-53 despite a team-high 15 points from Kennadi Harris. On Saturday, NDC jumped back into the win column following a rollercoaster contest at Salem 65-58, as Noel Weathers paced the game with 13.
 
The aforementioned Weathers headlines Notre Dame College, ranking 15th in the Mountain East Conference at 12.4 points per game. Moreover, the Mt. Healthy High School product leads the MEC in rebounds per game (8.7) and blocks per game (2.2), as the Cincinnati, Ohio native is tied 16th in the entire country in blocks per game. Moreover, the sophomore has tallied 39 blocks on the season, the fourth-most in NDC single season history, including the most since Joni DePiore (53) in 1996-97. Weathers also posts team-highs in field goals made (92) and attempted (200), and is second in field goal percentage (46.0%) and steals (21).
 
Kennadi Harris (9.6 ppg) and Lilee Carlson (9.5 ppg) round out the top three scorers for NDC. Harris ranks first in the MEC and 35th in the country by shooting 39.1-percent from three. The redshirt junior is also tied eighth in the conference with 1.9 three-pointers made per game. Carlson registers the most efficient shooting mark for the Falcons with a 52.8-percent shooting from the floor.
 
Rachel Richardson (8.4 ppg), Cencere McDaniel (7.8 ppg) and Karli Anker (7.6 ppg) offer additional offensive support, as Carlson and Richardson facilitate the offense at 40 and 37 assists, respectively. Carlson is tied for 19th in the conference at 2.2 assists per game, and tied for 16th in total assists.
 
As a whole, Notre Dame averages 64.8 points per game on 39.4-percent shooting from the floor, 29.3-percent shooting from three and 64.0-percent shooting from the free throw line. The Falcons add 35.2 rebounds per game (-6.3 margin), 11.7 assists per game, 8.4 steals per game and 4.2 blocks per game. NDC is first in the MEC and tied for 31st in the country in blocked shots per game.
 
Noting the Bobcats: Last week, West Virginia Wesleyan started a winning streak, beginning with a 55-52 victory at Frostburg State, as Sydney Baird led the team with 11. On Saturday, five Bobcats scored in double figures as WVWC defeated Davis & Elkins, 76-64 behind Emma Witt's game-high 17.
 
Witt is the team's leading scorer at 13.8 points per game, a top 10 provision in the MEC. Witt owns team-highs in field goals made (70) and attempted (144) and free throws made (50) and attempted (65).
 
Shelby Genes is the other double-digit scorer for the Bobcats (10.3), as her and Baird (9.6 ppg) are the team's top three-point threats at 32.2-percent and 39.7-percent from beyond the arc, respectively. Each player has made at least 23 three-pointers on the year. Baird is also the team's leading facilitator at 3.0 assists per game, including carrying 1.3 assist to turnover ratio, ranking ninth and fourth in the league, respectively.
 
On the glass, Desiree Roy is the top rebounder and sixth in the MEC at 7.1 rebounds per game. Witt is next up on the team at 4.4 rpg.
 
As a team, West Virginia Wesleyan averages 68.5 points per game on 42.4-percent shooting from the floor, 33.7-percent shooting from three and 74.6-percent shooting from the free throw line. The Bobcats add 36.0 rebounds per game (+7.1 margin), 15.9 assists per game, 8.5 steals per game and 2.3 blocks per game. WVWC ranks tied 23rd in the country in rebounding margin and tied 25th in assists per game.
 
Noting the Senators: Last week, Davis & Elkins dropped both contests as their losing streak extended to eight straight games. D&E fell on Wednesday 81-62 at Fairmont State, despite a game-high 18 points from Madison Butler. On Saturday, Alexis Smith scored a team-high 15 points, but the Senators dropped the match at WVWC, 76-64.
 
Taylor Smith leads the team as the lone double figure scorer at 10.6 points per game, 21st in the conference. T. Smith is the number one scoring option as she leads the team in field goals made (58) and attempted (174), three-pointers made (25), attempted (73) and percentage (34.2%) and free throws made (29).
 
A trio of Senators check in next in A. Smith (7.3 ppg), Kaylee Milburn (7.0 ppg) and Butler (6.6 ppg) to offer additional offensive support. Both T. Smith and A. Smith are the leading facilitators, ranking 18th and tied 19th, respectively in the MEC.
 
D&E is led by Jackie Wright on the boards with 5.4 rebounds per game, ranking 21st in the league. Six other Senators check in next between 5.0 and 3.0 rebounds per game.
 
As a unit, Davis & Elkins averages 57.3 points per game on 35.2-percent shooting from the floor, 25.9-percent shooting from three and 65.8-percent shooting from the free throw line. The Senators add 36.8 rebounds per game (-6.4 margin), 11.3 assists per game, 8.6 steals per game and 2.4 blocks per game.
