Box Score 2 BUCKHANNON, W.Va. – After falling behind late in game one to Davis & Elkins College, Notre Dame College brought two runs home in the top of the seventh inning to win, 5-4. In the second game, NDC fell to D&E, 10-2, in five innings.
Notre Dame got the scoring started in the third inning of game one. Junior
Meadow Odum doubled to right-center field to leadoff the inning. Freshman
Danielle Fick reached base on a ball hit up the middle that was misplayed by the pitcher and Odum advanced to third before junior
Katelyn DeWeese walked to load the bases. Sophomore
Ella Collinsworth hit a groundout to the pitcher, which scored a run and then graduate student
Alexi Maciejowski put NDC on top 3-0 with a base hit over the third baseman's head and into left field.
In the bottom of the third, two Senators singled and the bases were loaded after a hit by pitch. NDC's pitcher
Grace Fisher got herself out of the jam with a strikeout to end the inning. Davis & Elkins also had a runner in scoring position in the fourth, but did not score until the fifth inning.
In the fifth, back-to-back D&E doubles scored two runs. The Senators added two more runs, and took the lead, after leading off the sixth inning with four consecutive hits.
Down to their final three outs, Notre Dame found some seventh inning magic. Odum singled and Fick doubled. Senior
Emily Marsh pinch-hit and knocked in the tying run with a single. Sophomore
Emma Gumont grounded out to second base to score Fick from third and give Notre Dame a 5-4 advantage.
Junior
Madison Olszewski picked up the win after coming out of the bullpen and getting through the final 2 1/3 innings, while striking out three. Fisher went 4 2/3, allowing just two runs and striking out six hitters.
Davis & Elkins took the lead early in game two, however, in the second game the Senators added on. They scored twice in the second inning and added two more in the third.
Notre Dame would cut the D&E lead in half in the top of the fourth. Maciejowski stepped up with a runner on first base and hit an RBI double to right field. She would eventually come around to score on a groundout. The Falcons trailed, 4-2.
The Senators then took advantage of a few walks and scored six runs on three hits in the fifth inning to take a 10-2 lead.
Gumont led the team with two hits in the game.
The Falcons will come home to play Ursuline College, on April 3. The first game is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
