Wrestling ends regular season at Ashland and John Carroll

This Week: Notre Dame College wrestling will make the short trip to Ashland University for a dual with the Eagles, on Feb. 10, at 7 p.m. The Falcons will then head to John Carroll University for the John Carroll Open, on Feb. 12.

Records: Notre Dame has a dual meet record of 4-9, after going 1-2 at the Greyhound Duals last week. Ashland has a record of 7-9 this season.

Coaches Corner: Jordon Tague is in his first season coaching the Notre Dame College program. Colt Sponseller has been at the helm of the Ashland program for three seasons.

Rankings: In the latest National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Division II top 25 poll, Ashland is ranked No. 21, while NDC is receiving votes. Individually, in the NWCA rankings, NDC's Cale Hoskinson is No. 11 at 157 and La'Ron Parks is 12th at 285. In The Open Mat rankings, Hoskinson and Parks are both No. 11, in their respective weight classes. For Ashland, in the NWCA rankings, Daniel Beemer is No. 5 at 184 and Walker Uhl ranks sixth at 197. In The Open Mat rankings, Beemer is sixth, Uhl is ninth and Drew Wiechers (165) is ranked 16th.

Noting the Falcons: Notre Dame has wrestled in a significant amount of duals since the beginning of January. The matchup with Ashland will be NDC's ninth dual meet since the holiday break. Last weekend, the Falcons defeated Kentucky Wesleyan College, 29-15, but fell to McKendree University (40-5) and Quincy University (27-26), at the Greyhound Duals. Cale Hoksinson (157) and La'Ron Parks (285) both went 3-0 on the day and Parks pinned two opponents. Matthew Kaufmann (149) won twice by pinning two of his three opponents and Thomas Schmitt (184) went 2-1 on the day, which included an important pin against Kentucky Wesleyan's Cameron Baker to put the Falcons back in front.

Noting the Eagles: Ashland and NDC both competed at the Glenville State Duals and the Regional Duals, but have not matched up in a dual this season. Ashland did very well at both of those events, going 4-1 at Glenville State and 2-0 at the Regional Duals in Tiffin. AU has gone up against three teams ranked in the top 25. On Dec. 2, the Eagles fell to No. 18 Mercyhurst. On Dec. 9, they lost to No. 6 Pitt-Johnstown and on Jan. 12, Ashland fell to No. 4 West Liberty.

Last Friday, Ashland went up against Tiffin University, losing 27-22. On Sunday, the Eagles snuck past the University of Findlay, on Senior Day. AU trailed UF, 16-3, before winning five of the last six bouts in the dual. Ashland's Nate Barrett upset Findlay's No. 5 ranked Hunter Reed, at 174, and No. 5 Daniel Beemer won via tech fall, at 184.
