INDIANAPOLIS – On Saturday, Notre Dame College traveled to the University of Indianapolis for the Greyhound Duals. The Falcons defeated Kentucky Wesleyan College, 29-15, but fell to McKendree University, 40-5, and Quincy University, 27-26. No. 11
Cale Hoskinson and No. 12
La'Ron Parks both went undefeated on the day.
To open the day against McKendree, Hoskinson won at 157 lbs., with a 10-6 decision.
La'Ron Parks then put away Dustin Olmstead, at heavyweight, with a 5-0 decision.
Notre Dame wrestled much better in a win over Kentucky Wesleyan. After the Falcons had fallen behind by nine,
Matthew Kaufmann stepped up at 149. He pinned Will Keener to give NDC six points. Hoskinson won via decision and
Melvin Patterson (165) posted a major decision to give NDC a 13-9 advantage. KWC grabbed the lead, again, after a forfeit at 174, but then the Falcons went back to work.
Thomas Schmitt (184) pinned Cameron Baker,
Kyle Richards (197) won by major decision over Drayden McKerrow and Parks pinned Robert Ward.
In the final dual of the day, Notre Dame and Quincy traded blows throughout the matchup. As NDC trailed by 15, Kaufmann and Hoskinson both pinned their opponents to close the gap to three, 15-12. Quincy then took a 27-12 lead before the Falcons put together a comeback that nearly won the dual.
Thomas Schmitt won by decision and
Marvelous Rutledge re-entered the lineup at 197 and dominated with an 18-1 tech fall.
La'Ron Parks pinned Matthew Ludwig, but NDC fell by one point.
The Falcons will face No. 21 ranked Ashland University, in a dual on Feb. 10. A start time will be announced later.
