Women's basketball hits final week of regular season

This Week: The Notre Dame College women's basketball team will host West Liberty University for the final home game of the year on Wednesday Feb. 22 at 5:30 p.m. The Falcons will round out the regular season on Saturday Feb. 25 at 2 p.m. on the road against Alderson Broaddus University.
 
Records: NDC sits at 6-20 (5-15 MEC) and tied for ninth place in the Mountain East Conference. WLU is 15-11 (13-7 MEC) and in fifth place, while ABU is 5-20 (4-16 MEC) and tied for 11th place in the MEC. Note, the top 10 teams in the league receive a bid into the annual MEC tournament.
 
Coaches Corner: Imani Gordon is in her second season as the head coach of Notre Dame College, holding a career record of 21-34. Kyle Cooper is in his sixth season at the helm of West Liberty. Ta-Rel Franklin is in his first season with Alderson Broaddus.
 
Rankings: None of these teams are ranked according to the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Poll.
 
Series History: NDC is 11-10 all-time when facing WLU, dating back to their first meeting in 2013-14 and including the Hilltoppers 78-68 win back on Nov. 22. The Falcons are 4-1 all-time when playing AB, dating back to their first meeting in 2020-21 and including the Falcons 73-67 victory back on Jan. 21.
 
Noting the Falcons: Last week, Notre Dame went 0-2, beginning with a narrow 59-55 loss at home to Charleston. Freshman Noel Weathers generated 17 points and 12 rebounds, to post her fourth double-double of the season. On Saturday, the Falcons fell on the road to West Virginia State 115-67.
 
On the year, redshirt sophomore Alana Ellis has paced the Notre Dame offense with 15.6 points per game, ranking 12th inside the Mountain East Conference.
 
Weathers has come on strong for NDC as of late, tallying double-digit scoring efforts in seven of her last nine outings. During the span, she has also produced three double-doubles.
 
The freshman averages 11.0 ppg (2nd team) and leads the team in field goal percentage (48.8%), rebounds per game (7.0, 11th MEC) and blocks per game (0.9, 6th MEC).
 
Senior Marina Adachi is the third double figure scorer (10.6) for Notre Dame, as she provides an outside shooting threat. Adachi leads the team in three-point field goals made (44), attempted (113) and percentage (38.9%). The Attica, Ohio native is also lights-out from the free throw line, shooting 90 percent on the year.
 
Junior Lizzie Imrie adds 7.7 ppg, 5.3 rpg and team-high 49 assists.
 
As a team, Notre Dame averages 62.7 ppg on 38.0 percent shooting from the floor, 28.6 percent shooting from three and 69.0 percent shooting from three. The Falcons grab 32.6 rebounds per game (-9.1), 10.5 assists per game, 8.1 steals per game and 2.8 blocks per game.
 
Noting the Hilltoppers: Last week, West Liberty went 0-2 with a pair of narrow defeats. On Wednesday, WLU fell to Frostburg State 99-94 in overtime, as Karly McCutcheon poured in 33 points. On Saturday, WLU dropped a nail-biter 91-85 to Fairmont State, as Arriana Manzay dropped 32 points.
 
West Liberty has been paced by Manzay's 19.3 ppg this season, checking in at second in the MEC. Manzay shoots the ball efficiently, ranking first in the MEC and third in the country in field goal percentage (65.9%). In addition, she is also the team's leading rebounder (9.8, 3rd MEC) and shot blocker (1.6, 1St MEC).
 
McCutcheon, Corinne Thomas and Grace Faulk also boast double-digit scoring efforts, as the trio provides a long-range shooting threat for the Hilltoppers.
 
McCutcheon ranks sixth in the MEC in scoring (17.5), second in three-pointers per game (3.1) and third in three-point percentage (43.8%).
 
Thomas touts a 42.7 percent clip from three, as she averages 17.5 ppg in 16 games played.
 
Faulk averages 11.6 ppg, on 39.7 percent shooting from three (4th MEC), with 2.9 three-pointers per game (4th MEC).
 
As a whole, West Liberty averages 80.4 ppg on 46.9 perent shooting from the floor, 38.3 percent shooting from three and 72.2 percent shooting from the charity stripe. The Hilltoppers secure 38.7 rpg (+1.6 margin), 19.3 apg, 4.6 spg and 3.3 bpg. Amongst NCAA Division II WLU ranks second in three-point percentage, third in assists per game, fourth in made three-pointers per game, seventh in field goal percentage and tied ninth in three-point attempts per game.
 
Noting the Battlers: Last week, Alderson Broaddus is coming off a pair defeats. On Wednesday, AB dropped 100-73 to WV State, with Cassandra Smith scoring 23 in the loss. On Saturday, the Battlers fell 100-64, as Iyahnna Williams registered 24 points.
 
Alderson Broaddus relies on a slim six-player rotation during their contests, as the team leans heavily on Williams. Williams checks in as the team's leader in scoring (17.9), rebounding (7.5), assists (67), steals (50) and blocks (22). Amongst the league, Williams ranks fifth in scoring, tied for eighth in rebounding, 12th in assists, tied for sixth in blocks and seventh in steals.
 
Hannah Taylor (12.3), Amil Mitchell (11.5) and Cassandra Smith (10.9) round out the double figure scoring for AB.
 
As a unit, Alderson Broaddus averages 69.0 ppg on 39.8 percent shooting from the field, 23.4 percent shooting from three and 73.3 percent shooting from the free throw line. The Battlers generated 36.1 rpg (-7.9 margin), 10.0 apg, 8.7 spg and 3.6 bpg.
