Notre Dame falls to Ashland in final dual of regular season

ASHLAND, Ohio – On Friday evening, Notre Dame College traveled to Ashland University for a dual meet against the No. 21 ranked Eagles. The Falcons closed within one point, but Ashland went on a late run to win by a score of 31-14.

The Eagles took the lead following a couple early forfeits, but the Falcons battled back. Parker Moore took the mat at 141 lbs. and almost immediately put two points on the scoreboard with a takedown. He led 6-1 after two periods and then a reversal, late in the third, gave Moore an 8-1 victory by decision.

At 149, Matthew Kaufmann led 2-0 after one period and 5-0 after two. He put on a clinic in the third period and closed the door. With two near falls, Kaufmann quickly pushed the lead to double-digits and then used a takedown to secure the tech fall at 19-1.

Notre Dame trailed 12-8, but No. 11 ranked Cale Hoskinson stepped up for the Falcons in a close bout. The first point of his matchup with Nick Carbone came in the second period. Hoskinson had an important takedown and led 3-0 after two and would win 4-1. As a team, Notre Dame was behind by just one point, 12-11.

Ashland would win the next four weight classes, but No. 12 La'Ron Parks would put three more points on the board with a close 2-1 victory, at heavyweight, over Ty Petrey.

NDC will now head to John Carroll University for the John Carroll Open, on Feb. 12.
