GREENWOOD, S.C./PAINESVILLE, Ohio – Last Saturday, Notre Dame College traveled to Lander University to take on No. 18 Belmont Abbey College, UNC Pembroke, No. 1 Lander, the University of Mount Olive and Coker University in the Carolina Clash Duals. And on Sunday, a few NDC wrestlers went to the Lake Erie College Open.
La'Ron Parks (285 lbs.) and
Marvelous Rutledge (197) wrestled very well over the weekend. The No. 6 ranked Parks went 4-1, with his only loss coming against No. 2 ranked Juan Edmond-Holmes, of Lander. The Euclid, Ohio native pinned Belmont Abbey's Justin Wright and Mount Olives' Jayln McClammy, along with major decision victories over UNC Pembroke's Massimo Sullivan and Coker's Hamilton Cooper.
Rutledge also went 4-1 on Saturday. He started the day with back-to-back decisions over Mason Kump (Belmont Abbey) and Christopher Dickey (UNC Pembroke) and then ended the day with technical falls over Noah Williams, of Mount Olive, and Thomas Jones, of Coker. His only loss came against Lander's No. 10 ranked Anthony Yacovetti.
Melvin Patterson ended the day with back-to-back wins at 165, including a major decision over Coker's Gage Olson.
Joseph King pinned Jayvian O'Neal, of Mount Olive, at 184.
At Lake Erie on Sunday,
Rodney Winston Jr. (174) and
Kyle Richards (197) both took fifth place in their weight brackets. Winston pinned Tristan Ice in the fifth-place match to grab the spot. Richards moved into the consolation bracket and cruised through by pinning Waynesburg's Ayden Bishoff, Gannon's Shane Davidson, Lake Erie's Tyler Shellenbarger to take fifth place.
Elijah Rowdy (133) earned a win over Glenville State's Cam Fentress and
Bryce Allison (157) defeated Ohio State's Stephen O'Neil.
NDC will now head to Indianapolis for the Midwest Classic, on Dec. 16-17.
