Falcons battle Dragons following holiday hiatus

This Week: The Notre Dame College women's basketball team hosts Tiffin University on Saturday Dec. 30 at 1 p.m.
 
Records: NDC begins the week at 3-7, as TU owns a 3-8 mark.
 
Coaches Corner: Lauren Macer is back at the helm of the Notre Dame College women's basketball team in her second stint and fifth season as head coach. Macer, the 2019-20 MEC Coach of the Year, maintains a 81-39 career record. Josh Mason is in his second season as head coach of Tiffin, holding an 11-28 career record.
 
Rankings: Neither of these teams are ranked nationally according to the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) poll.
 
Series History: Notre Dame is 2-0 all-time when playing against Tiffin University, dating back to their first meeting in 2014-15 and including their most recent contest in 2015-16, resulting in a 92-69 victory for the Falcons in South Euclid, Ohio.
 
Noting the Falcons: The last time out, Notre Dame narrowly defeated West Virginia Wesleyan 69-66 on the home court, as the Falcons held the Bobcats scoreless over the final five minutes of play to secure the victory. Sophomores Noel Weathers and Cencere McDaniel shined, as Weathers registered a team-high 16 points, followed by McDaniel's first career double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds.
 
Weathers powers Notre Dame College on the year, averaging 13.1 points and 8.6 rebounds per game, ranking tied 10th and tied third in the Mountain East Conference, respectively. The Cincinnati, Ohio native is the Falcons top scoring option, posting team-highs in field goals made (55) and attempted (116) and seated fifth in the MEC with a .474 field goal percentage.
 
Kennadi Harris (11.2 ppg) and Lilee Carlson (10.5 ppg) offer additional support on offense. Harris leads the MEC and ranks 30th in NCAA Division II, owning a .440 clip from beyond the three-point line. Carlson is the team's top facilitator, dishing out 23 assists on the season, ranking tied 20th in the conference.
 
Rachel Richardson (8.9 ppg), Karli Anker (8.4 ppg) and McDaniel (8.4 ppg) round out a balanced scoring attack for NDC.
 
Weathers is joined by McDaniel on the glass, with 4.7 rebounds per game. In addition, Weathers leads the MEC in blocks (13) and blocks per game (1.3), as the Mt. Health High School product fuels the Falcons on both sides of the ball.
 
As a team, Notre Dame is averaging 71.6 points per game on .425 percent shooting from the floor (42.5%), .318 percent shooting from three (31.8%) and .682 percent shooting from the free throw line (68.2%). The Falcons corral 36.1 rebounds per game (-3.9 margin), 13.0 assists per game, 8.5 steals per game and 3.5 blocks per game.
 
Noting the Dragons: The last time out, Tiffin fell on back-to-back days on Dec. 16-17 to Davenport and Grand Valley State. TU lost 57-47 to Davenport, despite 14 points and 12 rebounds from Kristen Williams. Presley Feltner paced the Dragons against Grand Valley State with 12 points and five rebounds, but Tiffin dropped the contest, 84-42.
 
Savanah Richards is lone the Dragon to average double figures at 10.0 ppg. Richards leads the team in free throws made (25), attempted (33) and percentage (75.8%). Williams joins the scoring attack for TU at 9.7 ppg, as she owns team-highs in field goals made (38) and attempted (86), and three-pointers made (19) and attempted (48).
 
Williams is the squad's leading rebounder, grabbing 6.2 rpg. Feltner joins the rebounding effort at 5.4 rpg, while being the team's third leading scorer at 7.7 ppg.
 
Catara Dejarnette has dished out a team-high 26 assists. Dejarnette is also third on the team in rebounding (3.4 rpg) and fourth in scoring (6.6 ppg).
 
As a whole, Tiffin averages 54.0 ppg on .387 percent shooting from the floor (38.7%), .262 percent shooting from three (26.2%) and .635 percent shooting from the free throw line (63.5%). The Dragons generate 32.8 rebounds per game (-2.7 margin), 13.0 assists per game, 7.6 steals per game and 2.0 blocks per game.
